This classic little sage green trinket tray is decorated with cherubs, fairies and a wee dog in white relief. One has fallen down and I can't tell if the others are helping him or not. Their little dog is barking at the excitement. It and is marked "Wedgwood Made in England" on the back in a single stamp. This, according to Wikipedia, dates the production of this tray from the 1970s to present.
Excerpt From Wikipedia:
"Jasperware, or jasper ware, is a type of pottery first developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. Usually described as stoneware, some authorities have described it as a type of porcelain. It is noted for its matte and unglazed biscuit finish and is produced in a number of different colours, of which the best known is a pale that has become known as Wedgwood Blue. Relief decorations (typically in white but also in other colours) are characteristic of Wedgwood jasperware. They are produced in moulds and applied to the ware as sprigs....
...Jasperware is particularly associated with the neoclassical sculptor and designer John Flaxman Jr who began to supply Wedgwood with designs from 1775. Flaxman mostly worked in wax when designing for Wedgwood. The designs were then cast: some of them are still in production."
Measures approximately 4 1/2 inches long by 3 inches wide.
Very good condition. No chips or cracks. The leg on one of the cherubs has a pronounced hairline bend at the leg, but I think it was part of the manufacturing process.
