Wonderful vintage silver-plated taper candlestick holder.
This lovely silver-plated candlestick holder is from Benedict-Proctor and I am placing the age of this holder at approximately 1950. It is wonderfully heavy and has a classic shape with good detail around the rim of the base and body.
The bottom reads "Benedict-Proctor" in a diamond hallmark, also E.P. Lead and the numbers 2442 1/2.
My limited research reveals Benedict-Proctor was a silver company, which operated in Canada during 1910 - 1970. E.P. Lead means that items of this sort have a lead core plug, which works as a ballast (in this case to provide stability so the candle doesn't tip over). It does not mean that silver plate is cast over lead, merely that there is a contained lead "plug" inside for weight. It is not considered dangerous, since the lead is contained, and at any rate the item is not for food use.
This is a lovely table accessory for fine, elegant or romantic dining. Also lovely for magical ambiance and spell working!
Measures approximately 3 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches diameter at the base.
It is in overall good condition. The usual scratches and minor dings. There is a "bang" or "rubbed spot" on the center body (see photos) but not noticeable until close examination.

PS Sorry for the poor photos. Very difficult to take photos of a reflective item!
