Of interest to collectors! This mug is a rare bit of Canadian memorabilia from the National Defence College.
This is what I have discovered from my research:
"The National Defence College, which was located with the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in Fort Frontenac at Kingston, Ontario, was opened in December 1947 by Brooke Claxton, Minister of National Defence, and held its first class on 5 January 1948. It was responsible for the education of senior officers of the three armed services and civilian departments of government in the principles of higher governmental administration and staff work, so that they may be thoroughly versed in inter-service and inter-departmental planning. Woman students were first admitted in 1971-72. The National Defence College was closed on 30 June 1994, as a result of decisions announced in February 1994 federal budget."
" ... visited military academies, armed forces headquarters and other important military locations as well as to hear speeches by local military officers, politicians, and ambassadors."

I have dated this mug to approximately the 1970s based on The National Defence College operating between 1947 and 1994 and the fact that this mug was Made in England. I have found that English china and pottery manufacturers did make a lot of china for Canadian organizations; but this dropped off sharply after 1980.
Alternatively, this mug would be wonderful for those interested in magic and mythology in general, and Griffins in particular! The Griffin is a most magical, powerful and majestic beast because the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts; and the eagle the king of the birds. Griffins are also known for guarding treasures and priceless possessions - so you could use this mug in your magical work.
Measures approximately 3 1/2 inches tall by 3 inches deep by 5 inches across (including handle).
In very good condition. No chips or cracks. The graphic is clear and the gold trim is intact.
